The Chinese Cultural Society of Stockton was initiated by a group of founding members in 1977 to fill the void of Chinese cultural activities in the San Joaquin County area. It was incorporated in the State of California as a non-profit organization and received its tax exemption status in 1979.

The purposes of the Society are:

To preserve and promote pride of Chinese culture traditions, customs and arts in the Chinese Community.

To promote an awareness and appreciation of Chinese culture in the community.

To enhance the cultural life of the community by promoting and sponsoring varied educational, social and Chinese cultural activities throughout the year.

The Society has continuously presented a New Year Festival each year in early March since 1979 in Stockton, featuring Chinese folk dances, lion dance, Chinese songs, Tai Chi and Kung Fu demonstrations, fashion show, cooking demonstration, food court, calligraphy, art, children's workshop etc. The Society offers scholarships each year to graduating high school and San Joaquin Delta College students of Chinese descent. The Society also sponsors or co-sponsors various cultural activities such as Chinese concerts, lectures on Chinese calligraphy, and history, Chinese herb medicine and tours of Chinese historical sites.

Membership of the Society is open to any person interested in the purposes of the Society. At present, there are four types of membership, namely, individual, family, student and organization membership.
